Annual eTwinning Conference, 14-16 March 2008

The eTwinning Conference 2008 will be held at the Hotel Grand Rin in Bucharest, Romania, from 14-16 March. The theme of this year’s conference is “Promoting Intercultural Dialogue” and the event will be attended by nearly 400 participants from across Europe.

To launch this important event, Jan Figel’, Member of the European Commission in charge of education, training, culture and youth, will open the Conference followed by a number of plenary discussions with various actors working in education in Europe.

A central activity of the Conference will also be the prize-giving ceremony for the eTwinning Prizes 2008. From over 400 entries, all eight project finalists will be present in Bucharest where the winners and runners-up will be announced and awarded.

In addition, a large exhibition area for finalists and National Support Service (NSS) to showcase their activities, as well as a full programme of workshops on various aspects of eTwinning, are sure to make this an exciting conference.

European Schoolnet (www.europeanschoolnet.org) is a unique not-for-profit consortium of 31 ministries of education in Europe created in 1997. EUN provides major European education portals for teaching, learning and collaboration and leads the way in bringing about change in schooling through the use of new technology.

About eTwinning

The eTwinning action was launched earlier this year at a conference in Brussels. It is a core part of the European Commission’s eLearning programme. eTwinning aims to foster and facilitate exchanges and partnerships between European schools.

European Schoolnet has been granted the role of Central Support Service, it is supported by a network of National Support Services throughout Europe whose role is to promote the eTwinning action and report on the activities in their countries.

The main tool of the eTwinning action is the eTwinning portal (www.etwinning.net) developed by European Schoolnet. The website is available in 20 languages. It is the official website that offers, among others, a partner finding section and a the communication platform; it is the online interface of a human network and provides information for schools.
