SIFA-EUN sign cooperation agreement
Author: EUN News

The School Interoperability Framework Association (SIFA) and European Schoolnet have signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement makes European Schoolnet SIF representative in Europe, while BECTA is SIF representative for the UK. With this agreement, SIFA and EUN will work together in the development and integration of interoperability applications and content. European Schoolnet will organise one or two pilots based on SIF standard.

The Schools Interoperability Framework Association is a non-profit membership organisation comprised of over 325 software vendors, schools, state departments of education and other organisations active in schools. In 2005, Larry Fruth SIF Executive Directors visited European Schoolnet to discuss synergies between SIF and EUN.

The agreement signed this month will allow SIFA and EUN to work together to identify steps of mutual assistance and cooperation in the development and integration of interoperability applications and content.  Both parties will draw on their knowledge and experience in interoperability to achieve this goal.

The main collaboration activities will be:

  • to develop European national/regional SIFA representation.
  • Facilitate the alignment of international data needs and infrastructure requirements within existing and developing SIF specification
  • Establish and host a SIFA reference site
  • Identify opportunities for SIF Specification and certification utilization
