CALIBRATE project meeting in Brussels
Author: EUN News
The CALIBRATE project had its second full meeting on 21-22 March 2006 in Brussels. Since the project’s kick off meeting in October 2005, preparatory work has been carried out in order to start connecting learning content repositories from Austria, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia. The first operational version of the CALIBRATE federation of repositories is on target to be completed in September 2006, thereby enabling up to 100 schools to participate in the first validation exercise at the start of the new school year.
Good progress is also being made in other project work packages. In WP1, following an analysis of selected parts of national curricula (from Austria, Belgium and the Czech Republic), partners have clarified knowledge representations and content mapping procedures for these curricula and work is now focused on developing use cases related to this research into the semantic interoperability of learning resource descriptions.
In WP3, work with a small focus group of teachers has resulted in the development of a prototype design for the CALIBRATE learning toolbox that will enable teachers to provide collaborative learning activities around content found via the CALIBRATE portal.
And in WP4, participating Ministries have already identified the schools and teachers that will participate in CALIBRATE focus groups and the project validation exercise.
CALIBRATE has been specifically designed to support EUN’s vision for the implementation of a new pan-European Learning Resource Exchange (LRE). A major seminar on EUN’s plans for the LRE was also hosted by the CALIBRATE and LIFE projects on 23 March 2006 in Brussels.
