Steering Committee meeting in Brussels

European Schoolnet’s Steering Committee had its first meeting of the year in Brussels on 27 April. It took place back-to-back with the final conference of the P2P project on 26 April. The Committee adopted the Work Programme for 2006 and the budget linked to it.

The programme structure EUN’s work for 2006 in three strands – School networking and services, Policy and Practice and Interoperability and Content exchange. For 2006 EUN have a budgeted income of 3,763,000 EUR and costs of 3,662,000 EUR. The Steering Committee also adopted the report on EUN’s work during the first quarter provided by the EUN Office.

A first discussion on the priorities for Work Programme 2007 was also on the agenda. The budget, the work progamme and the quarterly report can be downloaded from www.europeanschoolnet.org (section Key documents).

Based on a preliminary income budget for 2007, the Steering Committee decided to raise the membership fee from 25,000 EUR to 30,000 EUR. The increase is meant to fund a strengthening of the management of the EUN Office. It also discussed the criteria for membership of European Schoolnet and decided to set down an ad hoc group to propose how EUN could be opened to the participation of regions.

Before the meeting, the Steering Committee had been informed that the Executive Director of the EUN Office, Ulf W. Lundin, will step down from 1 January 2007. The Steering Committee appointed a group to prepare the recruitment of the new Director. The group will prepare the announcement of the post and propose the candidates that will be interviewed by the Steering Committee at its meeting on 30 June. Following the interviews, the new Director will be appointed at this meeting.
