Describing the prizes, the Presenter Anne Gilleran, from the EUN office said: “The aim is to reward the best examples of use of ICT by schools in Europe and give them visibility”. ‘Living in Europe: on highlands and lowlands’ from Scuola Primaria ‘Ada Negri’ in Lodi Vecchio, Italy won the top category, the Young Digital Planet’s Award for ‘the best use of ICT’.
Piotr Mróz, a board member at Young Digital Planet presented the proud Italian teacher Francesco Zanaboni with a crystal trophy and a cheque of €5 000 for his school.
Professor Derrick de Kerckhove, Director of the McLuhan programme at the University of Toronto and President of the Jury said:
“This is a lovely site, with high production values and depth. It has received top marks for all criteria, especially for community building and networking as it stimulates lasting communications between various European countries as well as providing quality academic content. Its transferability is such that it ought to be emulated by many other inter-European collaborations online in the next few years.”
The school ‘Ecole élémentaire d'Hénouville’ from Henouville, France claimed the second prize with their project ‘Podcast de radios scolaires’. Third prize was won by ‘Begin High School’ from Rosh Ha’ain, Israel with an innovative project called ‘Patient, Doctor, Specialist - A fiction of health consulting in a future world’.
The INTEL award for Mathematics was won by “KMS Lacknergasse” from Vienna, Austria with the project ‘Mathematik mit Willi Winkel’. Promethean’s Award for ‘Whole Class Teaching’ was won by ‘Scoala cu clasele I-VIII nr. 191’ from Bucharest, Romania with the project ‘KMIKY (Knowing Me Is Knowing You)’.
The Oracle Award for Science was won by the Mercy Secondary school from Ballymahon in Ireland Ray with the project: ‘diagrams in Physics - electromagnetism in Physics’. The Michael Award for Culture was won by the Evangelische Schule Frohnau in Berlin, Germany with ‘Projekt 45 - Zur 60 jährigen Wiederkehr des Kriegsendes 1945’.
Finally the Vanerum Special Awards was won by primary school Eotvos Street in Komarno, Slovakia with a project called ‘Healthy Diet – FitKIds’.
The eLearning Awards is an annual event organised by European Schoolnet and supported by private partners. Its aim is to reward the best examples of use of ICT by schools in Europe. More than 500 entries from over 30 countries were submitted in 2006, the sixth year the event has been held in different cities in Europe.
