ICT Cluster work completed
Author: EUN News
EUN has completed its work for the ICT cluster of the European Commission with a major deliverable: The ICT Impact Report. The report is a review of 17 recent studies of ICT impact on schools in Europe. It addresses the question of what have been the concrete results or impact of ICT investment and integration in schools in two major areas: learning outcomes and teaching and learning processes. It aims to distil and analyse the key findings from the studies and make recommendations to policy makers and practitioners.
The ICT Impact Report provides:
- A comprehensive picture of ICT impact studies and their impact at national and European level;
- A reference framework for describing impact looking at the approaches taken in two major impact studies;
- A critical reflection on the research findings;
- Issues, recommendations and suggestions for future action on the basis of the evidence available and emerging from the discussions with the ICT cluster.
The results of the ICT Impact Report will be presented in more detail on European Schoolnet’s Insight website (http://insight.eun.org) and newsletter in January 2007. There are twelve findings relating to learning outcomes, for example ICT impacts most in primary schools, and 29 findings related to teaching and learning processes, for example ICT allows for greater differentiation. Among the 12 recommendations made to policy-makers and schools is the suggestion to undertake more pan-European studies of ICT’s impact.
During the contract period with the European Commission (DG Education and Culture), EUN worked with the ICT cluster on two Peer Learning Activities (PLAs), one to Helsinki in January 2006 and one to Luxembourg in September 2006 and was responsible for the final visit reports.
The final project report, also submitted this month, includes recommendations from the Peer Learning Activities, the ICT Impact report and the overall activities of the ICT cluster .Key messages emerging from this group will go into a communication prepared by the DG Education and Culture on how ICT may contribute to the objectives of innovation and modernization of education and training systems in Europe.
