Meeting between the central and national support services of eTwinning
Author: EUN News
On 22 June, the coordinators of the eTwinning action at European and national levels met to take stock of work done so far and to discuss strategies for the second year of the eTwinning action. About 60 people took part in the discussions, including the European Commission.
Statistics indicate that quite a number of schools from all over Europe are keen on getting involved in eTwinning: Over 6,200 schools were registered for the action in June 2005. It is clear, however, that schools need more support to twin up in partnerships and carry out projects as only 385 partnerships are registered. Activities next year will therefore focus on increased personal support and improved as well as more varied pedagogical tools and project kits.
The main issue of the meeting was the consolidated work programme for eTwinning at European and national levels. Activities set out for next year focus on increasing visibility of eTwinning among users. The central portal and national web sites, pedagogical tools, teacher training and the introduction of networking and quality development workshops aim at facilitating European collaboration. Teachers and other school staff are thereby given more help to find partners, twin up and carry out projects across borders.
At the meeting, the first draft for the eTwinning prize giving ceremony was presented by the Austrian National Support Service who will host the ceremony. The conference will take place from 13 to 15 January 2006 in Linz, Austria, and in addition to the prize giving ceremony for the first European eTwinning prizes, an exhibition of high quality eTwinning projects will showcase activities made by eTwinning partnerships.
