European Schoolnet organises Spring Day chats

As part of the Spring Day for Europe activities, European Schoolnet organised three chats in April 2007 between European decision-makers and European schools. Chat guests included Dimitris Dimitriadis, president of the European Economic and Social Committee, Michel Delebarre, president of the Committee of the Regions and Ján Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture, and Youth.
On 11 April, the chat with Dimitris Dimitriadis focused on the theme of “50 years of Europe: The EESC as a bridge between Europe and organised civil society”. The chat took place between Mr Dimitriadis and schools from Bulgaria, Greece, Greenland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Spain and Turkey.
Schools posed questions such as “What is EU planning to do to reduce energetic dependence on Middle-East countries and Russia?” or “How EESC could become a bridge between the EU institutions and Civil Society?”
The chat with Michel Delebarre on 2 April 2006 focused on “What future for the Regions and Cities of Europe after 50 years of the European Union?” the chat took place in the EUN Office with Mr Delebarre debating with schools from France, Romania, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia and Belgium. The chat language was French.
The last chat of the month took place on 25 April 2007 between Commissioner Ján Figel’ and European schools. The chat was held in English on the topic of “European citizenship: The path to living together in Europe starts at school”.
