Author: EUN News

The final CSS/NSS meeting for the 2005-2007 phase of eTwinning took place in Brussels, on 12 June 2007. The meeting both celebrated the excellent and successful collaboration during this first stage of eTwinning as well as paved the road for future activities for the 2007-2008 school year.

Chaired by EUN Executive Director Marc Durando, the meeting brought together 60 representatives of the National Support Services (NSS), the Central Support Service (CSS) and the European Commission.

The aim of the meeting was to celebrate three years of the eTwinning action, presentations from Eugenio Rivière (European Commission) Anne Gilleran and Santi Scimeca (CSS) each gave an overview of the last three years of eTwinning. By looking at the success of nearly 30,000 schools registered to eTwinning and over 4,000 projects running, both the European Commission and CSS emphasised that this success was greatly due to the collaboration between the Commission, the CSS and all NSS.

A joint contribution from the NSS, led by Cecile Gouzée from the French-speaking community in Belgium, expressed the satisfaction of all NSS in regards to the work carried out as a group since the beginning through photos and art.

Peter Birch, from the European Commission’s Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency, introduced the work of the Agency as it will take over the management of contracts for eTwinning in its next phase, starting this autumn.

After a special lunch to celebrate the first year of eTwinning, the afternoon focused on forthcoming activities, including the eTwinning Weeks campaign, Professional Development Workshops and workgroup and management meetings.

From the EUN office, participants included Marc Durando, Santi Scimeca, Anne Gilleran, Christina Crawley, Silvia Spinoso, Sylvia Binger, Bart Vanhulle, Sophie Vandeputte and Katerina Bavorova.
