Successful PENCIL Science Teachers conference
Author: EUN News

More than 120 participants attended the final PENCIL Science Teachers conference on 14-16 June 2007 in Technopolis, the Flemish science centre located in Mechelen, Belgium. About 100 science teachers from all over Europe where given the chance to see the results of the PENCIL project and get an idea for future cooperation with science centres.

Xplora, European Schoolnet’s gateway to European science education, co-organised the event together with ECSITE, the organisation of European Science Centres. The Conference was the final teachers’ conference of the PENCIL project.

During two and a half days representatives of pilot projects and project partners of the PENCIL project showed to science teachers their results. In a series of panel presentations, participants were informed about the purpose of the project and the outcome of pilot projects.

A series of workshops allowed science teachers to dive into practice in selected pilot projects, the use of innovative digital resources collected by the Xplora team and the technologically brand new eCourses. Based on the well known Moodle Open Source Learning Management System (LMS), Xplora created a complete Moodle system on a USB memory stick, which starts a Moodle server with a complete LAN binding without the need to install or configure the software called MOUSE (Moodle On Usb Stick Environment) .

INDIRE, the Italian teacher training institute, demonstrated their teacher training courses, specially designed to run on the MOUSE and other Moodle servers.
