CoSN and European Schoolnet join forces
Author: EUN News

EUN and the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) announced on 4 June 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim to share knowledge, resources and insights on the role of education technology. Both organisation will work closely together to explore synergies, exchange ideas and join forces to develop technological tools and services that will be beneficial for both education systems.

CoSN is a US based consortium which aims at providing products and services to support and nurture leadership development, advocacy, coalition building, and awareness of emerging technologies.

“The impact of education technology as a tool to transform and enhance teaching and learning is universal,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. “Launching a partnership with European Schoolnet is an exciting step for CoSN because it provides an opportunity for us to develop and collaborate on new endeavours that will help us to further illustrate to policymakers and educators the value of technology in schools,” he added.

“School systems in Europe and the United States are facing similar challenges, and we’re at a stage of development in ICT where we need evidence of benefits” commented Odile de Chalendar, Chair of the EUN Steering Committee.

Early focus of the partnership will concentrate on sharing policy information as well as exploring how educators and policymakers “value” technology. The European Schoolnet has already developed country reports which serve as an excellent tool to compare policies and investment strategies in Europe. Likewise, CoSN has developed cutting edge information regarding the Value of Investment for technology projects in education.  Given the fact that European Schoolnet and CoSN represent respectively twenty-eight national governments and fifty state governments, this sort of policy and leadership exchange is very likely to turn into a rich laboratory for better understanding of the best practices.
