European Schoolnet and Appe to cooperate
Author: EUN News

European Schoolnet was recently approached by the Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe (Appe) to launch an educational campaign for upper primary and secondary schools. Together, they are developing an innovative concept to enable young people to explore the properties of materials, and understand some of the chemical processes involved in creating materials used in every day life.

The campaign will include a competition for teams of young people around Europe, to  implement and report on their own practical science experiment linked to the topic of materials and their properties. Such an inquiry-based learning approach is proven to impact positively on young people's motivation for studying science and technology.

Another key activity planned is the creation of a timeline of discoveries in the field of materials. Schools are invited to investigate the history of discoveries, and make their own contribution to the timeline to generate a final timeline illustrated by schools from all over Europe.

The campaign will be launched in September 2007, aimed at science teachers and their pupils all over Europe. For more information, please contact Alexa Joyce (alexa.joyce@eun.org).
