eTwinning Professional Development Workshop St Julien’s

The first professional development workshop for the current scholastic year, took place in St. Julien, Malta 19 – 21 October 2007. The primary audience for this workshop was school principals at both Primary and Secondary level and a number of school district administrators.
Frans Borg, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, welcomed eighty nine participants from twenty countries. He spoke about the importance of eTwinning to the Maltese schools and wished the delegates a successful workshop.
Anne Gilleran and Sylvia Binger representing the Central Support Service (CSS) introduced the eTwinning Portal and gave an overview of its context in the 21st Century education. Conor Galvin, an education expert and member of the Pedagogical Advisory group for eTwinning, gave an address on the topic of eTwinning and school improvement.
The participants also followed a number of practical workshops in various tools available for eTwinning and took part in plenary discussions. The aftermath response was extremely positive and the possibility of setting up a network of eTwinning school principals was enthusiastically discussed. At the end of the workshop, a guided tour to the city of Mdina was organized to show the cultural heritage of the island.
