myEUROPE welcomes the 8000th school
Author: EUN News
The Hans-Furler-Gymnasium Oberkirch in Germany is the 8,000th school to register on the myEUROPE portal. Volker Wacker, who teaches at the school, joined the network while looking for school partners in the UK. The myEUROPE project and its Web portal were launched in May 2000 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. The portal aims to promote European citizenship and intercultural education through on-line activities.
The myEUROPE project welcomes all schools in Europe to register on the portal. Only registered schools have privileged access to a set of services such as newsletters and a mailing list. Once the schools’ email addresses are subscribed to these services, teachers can post calls for collaboration or ask for help or advice.
Since its launch in 2000, the myEUROPE project has had various focuses that changed from encouraging teachers from former candidate countries to communicate with peers in the member states to supporting the integration of ICT-based activities into the curriculum.
The 8,000-strong myEUROPE schools network contributes to highlighting the wealth of cultures, languages and countries in Europe. Schools use myEUROPE as a platform that enables teachers and their classes to communicate and share knowledge and practices around two themes: European citizenship and intercultural education.
