On 14 June 2005, Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media gave a keynote speech at the Child safety and mobile phones conference organised by the European Commission in Luxembourg.
Commissioner Reding specifically mentioned European Schoolnet and its work as a coordinating node for the Insafe network and as an important partner in the Internet safety arena. She underlined the importance of harnessing the power of this rapidly growing technology in order to keep younger users safe.
This plenary session of the Safer Internet Forum focused on "Child safety and mobile phones". The aim of the meeting was to improve the common understanding of the issue at the European level. It gathered mobile operators, content providers, industry representatives, child safety associations and public bodies.
