Meeting on eTwinning portals
Author: EUN News
On 27-28 October 2005, meetings of eTwinning Working Group 1 (Portal) and Working group 3 (Communication) took place in Brussels. Working group 1 discussions focused on how the national and European portals could complement each other. Working Group 3 discussed the best and most effective ways to promote the eTwinning action in all European countries and regions.
Working Group 1 met in Brussels on 27 October 2005 to discuss issues related to the European and national portals. The central European portal (www.etwinning.net) exists in 21 languages and many countries have set up portals in their own country to promote eTwinning.
Aside of the discussion on the complementarity of the portals, other issues were how the portals can be used by teachers and other involved in eTwinning to find partners for a project, how to showcase practice, and how to improve the range and offer of technological tools. In this respect, a number of new software tools were presented which are now available to registered eTwinning users at the European portal.
The meeting was welcomed by Sergio Corti, head of unit at the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, and counted 40 representatives from the central support service, the national support services and the European Commission.
On 28 October, a Working Group 3 meeting took place at the French community Ministry of Education in Brussels. More than 20 representatives from national support services attended a whole day workshop on communication and dissemination.
After a thorough presentation by Eugenio Riviere, European Commission, representatives from the national support services of Greece, Poland and Italy presented their communication plans to the group. The rest of the day was spent focusing on how to raise the number of partnerships and how to find effective synergies between eTwinning and other European initiatives for schools.
