EUN new project: eColours

eCOLOURS is an eCONTENT feasibility study project focused on the co-development and localisation of digital learning resources for schools

eColours will run until September 2005. This feasibility study project brings together Ministries of Education (Sulinet – Hungary, National Board of Education – Finland and INDIRE - Italy), educational content developers (FWU – Germany, UNI-C – Denmark and SCRAN – Scotland) and a content repository with experience of both national and international educational content development and distribution publishers (Klett – Germany, EDITIS – France).

The aim of the partners is to co-develop and localise about 6 learning resources using a variety of different production models. During this process, they will assess the pedagogical, technical, multilingual, IPR and business issues involved when:

  • Ministries work directly with other Ministries (using in-house development teams or groups of teacher/developers).
  • Commercial content developers from different countries engage in joint ventures to develop content that meets the curriculum needs of schools in several countries.
  • Ministries and commercial partners from different countries jointly work together on international content development projects.

Based on the results, eCOLOURS will propose a business framework whereby co-development and localisation activities can be scaled up via a European network of ‘clearinghouses’ for educational content and will make recommendations concerning services and business models for these organisations.

The results will be promoted to Ministries of Education, school network operators, educational publishers, content developers and owners of digital content repositories.
