New technologies – we’d like to hear your views

Ever wished you knew more about Web 2.0, what’s new in the world of mobiles, or where these two worlds come together? Social networking services, user generated content and access to these services via mobile phones are becoming an integral part of life for many young people.

Keeping up with the challenges of today’s fast-moving world of technology can be time consuming. Fully aware of this, and with a commitment to work with teachers to help them get the best out of technology, a European pan-industry consortium has just been set up.

The initiative draws together the key internet and social networking providers: AOL, Bebo, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, MySpace and Yahoo, together with the major mobile companies Buongiorno, GSM Europe, Orange, Telefonica O2, Telecom Italia, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The consortium made an exciting statement at European Schoolnet’s annual Eminent meeting last week when it announced its first measure to set up an online information centre to guide teachers through the multiple opportunities and challenges that the virtual world brings. A core element of the centre will be the availability of free downloadable curriculum materials covering the latest technologies

Before this launch, you can make sure your voice is heard and your needs are taken into account through a questionnaire and two consecutive chat sessions to be held on January 16th and January 23rd at 14.00 (CET) with experts on mobile phone use and social networking respectively.

Visit the questionnaire here.

To address your questions directly to key industry players, sign-up to the chat sessions by addressing an email to: teacherschat@eun.org indicating the theme of your choice in the subject of the email.

The pan-industry consortium will follow up the launch of its website, to be made available through www.eun.org, with actions based on your recommendations made through the questionnaire and chats. Watch this newsletter for further information.
