Author: EUN News

More than 6,600 schools signed up for Spring Day in Europe 2005, which took place on 17 March 2005. It was the third year European Schoolnet organised the event in collaboration with the European Commission. Many events during the day involved European and national political figures, including Margot Wallström, Vice President of the European Commission.

On 16 March 2005, Commissioner Wallström visited European Schoolnet Office for an Internet chat with schools in Europe.

For the 2005 edition or Spring Day in Europe, schools are organising a range of activities, some of which include participation by European or national political figures. Events organised by schools will be highlighted on the Spring Day website within the next two weeks.

This year’s theme is on the European Constitution and more than 70 MEPs, Commissioners and other European personalities have committed themselves to go back to schools on Spring Day to discuss their vision for Europe and its future.

On 17 March at the Representation of the European Commission in Paris, Margot Wallström and French Minister of European Affairs Claudie Haigneré, together with official guests, will answer questions from about 30 pupils from France and Germany on the European Constitution.

Other chats organised in the run-up to Spring Day included on 15 March a chat between Polish schools and former Polish foreign minister MEP Geremek Bronislaw. On 16 March, a similar chat took place between MEP Janusz Onyszkiewicz, Vice President of the European Parliament, and Polish schools. On 17 March, MEP Grażyna Staniszewska also had a chat with Polish schools. Also these chats sessions were organised from the European Schoolnet Office.

The aim of Spring Day in Europe is to start a dialogue between pupils, teachers and European Union personalities. It enables European schools to discuss European issues and incorporate them into the curriculum.
