Life: Learning Interoperability Framework for Europe
Author: Frans Van Assche

The aim of the LIFE project is to improve interoperability and the use of standards in the field of e-learning by increasing the effectiveness of Learning Technology standards and specifications. The project is funded by the European Commission’s eLearning scheme.

The objectives of the project are to explore the topic of practice in e-learning interoperability, and to identify its dimensions of real importance to Europe, exploring the current state of art, the trends and challenges, the important issues to be addressed, and guidelines and recommendations for the target groups.

The project will proactively support the dissemination of regular, tangible results to international and national scientific journals and conferences, to communities and associations of users and practitioners as well as to enterprises and industrial organisations. It will provide them with education and training services.

The project will also liaise with political and social associations so that they can stimulate their transfer [transfer of what?] into policies development.

The project’s added value is the set up of an initial partnership made up of key players in the European eLearning arena. The goal is that this core group will attract other interested parties and organisation in Europe to participate in the knowledge and best practice exchange.

LIFE partners network currently includes the European IMS Network (The Netherlands), Bolton University (the UK), the University of Vigo (Spain), eStandards Project - University of Oslo (Norway), the University of Paris X (France), CEDEFOP (Greece) and SUN Microsystems (France). European Schoolnet acts as a coordinator of the network.
